My first thought when I picked up this book and saw the price label was to ask how such a relatively slim volume could possibly be worth such a cost. As I began to read, I also began to wonder how the author could possibly find time to write such a thoroughly researched monograph while still managing to carry out his duties as a parish priest in Caldicott, Monmouthshire. I confess that both questions remain unanswered in my mind.
His academic background is impeccable, and it is combined with a willingness to get involved in 'coal-face' ministry with homeless young people in Cardiff. In this book, Ingle-Gillis has provided us with a call, based on thorough academic research, to a renewed determination to work ecumenically with Christians from all traditions.
This is an important document mainly because it brings together so many streams of thought and theology of ecumenism, and as such is an invaluable resource and reference tool. However, it is far too esoteric for the average parish priest to consider spending £55 and will, I fear, largely end up collecting dust on library shelves. That, in this reviewers' opinion, would be a shame. You are reading Issue 40 of Ministry Today, published in July 2007.
